For many years of our marriage (going on 18), it seems like Mike has been out of town on business trips for birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine's Day, etc. We have also spent these romantic days at funerals, or been sick. So last week, when I learned of my business trip, we weren't surprised at the timing, just the fact that I would be the one out of town this time. But fate, or the customer, was in our favor, and I came home last night, allowing us to spend Valentine's evening together. Our usual celebration is a simple exchange of cards in the morning, cleverly hidden in places where we will find them while getting ready to go to the gym and work. That's about it. (Although this year I also got a gift certificate to the new massage therapist at the gym.) We just had pizza for dinner, but with candles and wine and chocolate. Now we're companionably watching TV with our laptops. It's not like the movies, but real life is better.
Happy Valentine's Day to Mike, the love of my life.
