Back to where we started...at least with the fireplace

Here's the repaired fireplace. The only change we made was to replace the brick hearth with stone. Several bricks broke or were damaged when the original hearth was removed for waterproofing, and also when the fireplace bricks fell off the wall. Switching to the stone hearth provided plenty of good bricks for the repair, with a smaller pile left over. Next on the list: choose carpeting.
