Stupid cat tricks

For several years now, we've been putting a glucosamine supplement in Rusty's food. The vet says it may help prevent urinary tract infections from re-occurring, and so far, it seems to work. The powder comes in capsules, and we mix in one with his canned food at each meal - just open up the capsule, sprinkle on the powder, and stir. We would just toss the gel caps in the trash or in the sink. Every so often though, we would drop one, and Detour would grab it and run away, thinking it was food. After all, we were in the midst of making the cat dinner, so it had to be food, right? Now, eating the gel caps is a daily occurrence. When we drop the two halves on the floor, Detour almost always grabs the larger white half, even if she has to use her paw to steal it right out from under Alex or Rusty. And she still runs away at least a short distance to eat it. Rusty and Alex aren't as quick or observant, and often we have to show them where the other half landed, but the lucky cat will always eat it. The powder is supposed to be chicken flavored, so maybe that's why they like it. But most likely, they're just ready to eat because of all the well-learned signals that it's dinner time.
