Bonfire time
The downside of having a long tree-lined driveway is that so many of our trees are dying off. They're not nice landscaped trees, just scrub trees that grew on their own in the ditches. But 30 years after the house was built, many of the trees have reached their natural end. Unfortunately, it doesn't take a very strong wind to send the dead ones crashing down on the driveway, blocking access in and out, so Mike has been pro-active in cutting down the dead ones this summer and fall. That has given us a big pile of brush and wood to burn. We're saving the bigger pieces for the fireplace, but have had enough brush for some big bonfires. Saturday was another burning day, spent sitting in front of the fire pit, feeding it with branches, and then watching it burn itself out. I had plenty of time to read, and just relax. We even ate dinner in front of the fire, and watched the stars.

I love the scent of a wood fire burning. Something almost romantic. Maybe we camped to much years ago ...
